Why do I need to register?
You don’t have to register in order to comment on Can-Did. However, the website is meant to be used for discussions and building relationships. If you want to start a discussion or share your story with other users then you will need to go through a 1 min registration so that you become a Can-Did member. Being a member will also allow you to message other users privately, share updates and connect with people more easily. Registration is all free and very quick. We won’t ask you about your great grandma’s maiden name, all you need is a username, e-mail address and password.
I don’t have cancer and I am not related to anyone who does. What do I have to do with Can-Did?
Can-Did is not limited to people directly affected by cancer. If you are a supporter or simply a believer that cancer can be beaten, please feel free to read the blogs, post comments and encourage those that need your support. If you’ve heard of someone who has successfully overcome cancer please share the story with the rest or invite them to join Can-Did themselves.
What do the “Register as” categories mean?
If you register with Can-Did you will be asked to select what you want to register as. This is so that you can more easily link to other people who might have something in common with you. Here’s what each role means:
Supporter: You do not necessarily have any family or friends that have been affected by cancer but you are a supporter of the idea that cancer can be beaten and are generally interested in the topic
Friend: You have a friend who is or has been affected by cancer
Family: Someone in your family is or has been affected by cancer
Fighter: You have been diagnosed with cancer and are leading a battle against it
Survivor: You have had cancer before but have managed to fight it
How can I private message someone?
There are two ways you can do this. The easiest one is to click on “Can-Did members”, select the member youwant to message and click on “Private Message”. You can search for the member’s username using the search option to the right.
The other way to do it is to go to your user panel using the link at the top right, and to click on “Messages”. In the “Send to:” section you then have to type the username of the person you want to message exactly the way it appears on their profile.
Please note that no matter which method you use, you have to always have a subject of the message so that it can go through.
I have heard of a good cancer treatment through discussions in Can-Did and I want to try it. Do I need to seek additional medical help?
Although Can-Did aims to facilitate the flow of information between people and can often provide useful details around various techniques and treatments that can be used in the battle with cancer, it is important to note that it does not provide medical advice and by no means substitutes the medical expertise of your doctor. Please always consult with your doctor as everyone’s condition is specific and requires individual treatment.
What can I do if I want to prevent a certain user from sending me private messages?
At Can-Did we hope that you and the people you meet can mutually benefit from talking to each other. However, if you feel that your correspondence with someone is not going the way you would like it to, you have all rights to stop this correspondence. In such situations, please send us a message using the Contact Us form and we’ll make sure that the user in question is no longer able to contact you.
